Texas is vast and wide. Somewhere between Port Arthur and El Paso, Fern gathered wildflowers to entertain herself along a seemingly endless trail. This still life captures those flowers — painted by a stranger she met at camp.

We have no explanation for the vase. It seems a bit too civilized for her usual means of travel.
